OBJECTIVES

• To make the students, teachers, parents and the rest of the society understand the environmental hazards that we face and to make them familiar with green concepts and habits.
• To minimize the adverse effects of the said environmental hazards, make the students familiar with the green initiatives that already existed in the school and outside.
• To familiarize students with green habits and convey the message to their families and the rest of the society.
• Reducing the usage of polythene.
• Keeping the environment healthy by controlling the emergence of poisonous gases.
• Effective usage of waste matters by,
         (1) Production of biogas
        (2) Production of organic fertilizer
• Saving underground water

 ACTIVITIES

• Organizing seminars, workshops and field trips to make the students aware of the environmental hazards and the dangerous consequences of them.
• Banned the polythene packed products in the canteen.
• Awareness creation was given to students not to bring foods in non-biodegradable wrappers.
• Glisaridia plants were planted for the process of GO GREEN.
• Biogas production took place.
• Organic fertilizer production took place.

OBJECTIVES

The main objective of the club is to establish, strengthen and maintain the following in collaboration with all relevant stakeholders:

• Introduce sustainable mechanisms, structures, programmes to enhance capabilities for disaster risk management
• Early warning and dissemination
• Ensure the establishment of regional and local level coordinating mechanisms for disaster risk management
• Guarantee the availability of resources for disaster management activities through a special fund
• Ensure use of appropriate procedures and guidelines for and responding to disasters and threats of disasters in Sri Lanka in order to save lives and property

ACTIVITIES OF THE CLUB

Two School Disaster Protection Programmes were conducted jointly by the Ministry of education and the Jaffna District Disaster Management Centre to ensure the safety of the school children in the schools which are located at disaster prone. The objective of this programme is to prepare hazard risk maps with the participation of school children and school teachers, provide awareness regarding disasters and conduct preparedness programmes.

At Methodist Girls’ High School sports play a dominant role in the school’s regular activities, apart from the academics. MGHS offers its students a range of over 13 different sports in which they can participate. Almost all of them have different age group competitions at inter – house or inter – school level for trophies, challenge cups or shields. The list of sports are: Athletics, Badminton, Carrom, Chess, Cricket (Soft Ball), Elle, Karate, Kabaddi, Keep fit programme, Netball, Table Tennis, Throw ball and Volleyball. MGHS has produced many highest levels of performances at major sporting events at Zonal, District, Provincial and National level.

ACTIVITIES

Organizing and conducting annual sports meet every year. The meet comprises two weeks packed events combining both the track as well as the field. Conducting these events not only brings out the inborn talents but also develops the sportsmanship among students. Special awards, prizes, sports wears and kit bags are given to various sport teams in the school. Also the best achiever of the year, the best team of the year and the best captain of the year are honoured by awarding them with special prizes and certificates in the valedictory function of the annual sports meet.

The union is teaching the students in MGHS about the field of photography, giving them a great opportunity to gain experience in both, practically and theoretically! And aid for those who are willing to go further into the photography field.

• Taking photographs of all school functions.
• Saving them on the computer.
• Making procedures to view the saved photographs.

OBJECTIVES

• To attract the school students to serve the needy people of the community and uplift their standard of living by doing projects of quality rather than of quantity.
• Carry out general knowledge tests for every student in the school.
• Writing some general knowledge questions in the blackboard every day to make students know about all the things around them.
• Asking general knowledge questions for every student in the morning assembly every Monday and awarding the students who answer correctly by some gifts. This motivates every student to learn general knowledge.
• Visiting historical places in Sri Lanka to make students know about our ancestors and the values of our country.
• Publishing booklets by students.

OBJECTIVES:

• Leaving the school with a good personality.
• Creating a rotary club to bring up leadership, management and experience among students.

ACTIVITIES

• This club shall be responsible for planning, organizing, financing and conducting its own activities and shall itself supply the money, labour and creative imagination necessary there to, except that in the case of joint projects or activities undertaken in cooperation with other organizations, such responsibility shall be shared with such other organization.
• The club shall undertake among its activities at least two major projects annually, one designed to serve the school or community and the other to promote international understanding, and each shall involve all or most of the members of the club.
• It is the responsibility of the club to raise the funds necessary to carry out its program it should not solicit or accept more than occasional or incidental financial assistance from its sponsor Rotary club(S) other Rotary clubs or other interactive clubs all funds raised for service projects must be expended for that purpose.
